Between April 17 to November 2, 2025, Nebra Ark presents the Special Presentation «DRESSED – ROM MACHT MODE» (Dressed – Rome Power Fashion).  Fashion Icons of the Roman Empire, wardrobe favorites, and scandalous fashion trends are the trending topics here! Learn about dress codes and textile production during a visit to a «Roman Shoppingcenter» - hands-on explicitly permitted! 

Fashion is more than clothing – it tells stories, represents status and identity, and defines trends. That truth aplied already 2.000 years ago! The special presentation »DRESSED – ROM MACHT MODE« is a journey into the fashion world of Rome of the Antiquity, and draws surprising parallels to the present world of fashion. 

Which clothing was worn by Romans in their daily life, and what was worn for special occasions? What was the equivalent of a T Shirt? Which materials and colours were sought after? And why could a wrong decision about an outfit ruin your reputation in the long run? Between Tunics, Togae, coats, and artfully dyed fabrics, a surprisingly modern world opens up to the spectator, full of rules of style, social codes, and fashion experimentation, and quite some scandal. With the »Battle Rap« of Antiquity, the latest it´s getting obvious: You are what you wear, and fashion mistakes have always been rewarded with jeer and mockery. 

Besides a variety of objects on display, the exhibition captivates through its unique design: hallstands, shelves, and shop-in-shop areas are created to resemble modern shopping centers. You are invited to try a Toga, to feel the fabric of Roman clothing, and watch how antique fashion influencers might have presented themselves. From historic dress codes to present-day questions of sustainability, represented by the project »Evidence underpants«, the exhibition bridges Antiquity and the present day with humor and a wink.
